Agricultural firm Valley Seed has launched two new wheat varieties, dubbed Zambezi and Limpopo, designed to withstand climate extremes and boost yields for the 2025 winter season,
The release coincides with the government’s confirmation that all agricultural inputs for the upcoming wheat season are available domestically.

They are short-seasoned in that if planted on time they mature before the rains,” said Siamsipa Mwami, production manager at Valley Seed.
Technical Director Patrick Sajeni added that the seeds are “As you can see the new seed is in stock, we have finished packing all the quantities required under the programme, and once given the green light by the government we will start delivering to all GMB depots.”
The government aims to cultivate 120,000 hectares of wheat in 2025, including 5,000 hectares under its national Presidential Inputs Scheme, as part of efforts to achieve food security and reduce reliance on imports.
